One of the most common questions Andrew Ward, our Classical Homeopath at The Bath Practice, is asked is: “Can homeopathy help with my condition?”
The honest answer is that it depends – not just on the condition, but on the individual and their overall state of health. Here, Andrew explains how he thinks about this question, drawing on 36 years of clinical experience.
Homeopathy treats people, not conditions
In Classical Homeopathy, the diagnosis is only one part of the picture. Two people with the same condition may have quite different experiences of it, quite different health histories and quite different responses to treatment. The remedy is selected based on the complete picture of the individual, not on the diagnosis alone.
This is one of the reasons it’s difficult to give a simple yes or no answer to “can homeopathy help with X?” – the more useful question is “can homeopathy help this person, at this stage of their health, with this set of circumstances?”
Chronic and long-term conditions
Andrew’s particular area of interest and experience is long-term and complex health concerns – the kinds of conditions that conventional medicine sometimes struggles to address fully, or where patients have found that treatments have provided limited relief or come with unwanted side effects.
Over his 36-year career, he has worked with patients experiencing a very wide range of chronic conditions. He is honest about what homeopathy can and cannot achieve: outcomes depend significantly on the individual’s overall level of health, how long they have had the condition and other factors.
For people in what Andrew describes as the “upper levels of health” – where the body’s capacity to heal is relatively strong – the possibility of significant improvement or full recovery is often good. For those with more longstanding or complex conditions, progress may be slower and require patience and commitment, but meaningful improvements in quality of life are frequently achievable.
Acute conditions
Alongside chronic conditions, Classical Homeopathy can also be used for acute illnesses – infections, injuries and short-term health problems. In acute situations, responses to treatment can sometimes be rapid.
What Andrew looks for
In every case, Andrew carries out a thorough initial assessment before selecting a remedy. He asks in depth about your current symptoms, your full health history, your family history and many other factors. This takes time – initial consultations typically last well over an hour – but it is this depth of assessment that allows the right remedy to be identified.
Andrew is always transparent about his assessment of how homeopathy may be able to help in any individual case, and will advise you to seek conventional medical assessment where he feels this is appropriate.
Read what patients say
The best way to understand the range of conditions Andrew has worked with – and the results his patients have experienced – is to read their accounts in their own words. You can find a wide range of patient testimonials on Andrew’s website at www.homeopathyuk.org.
