Reflexology

The ancient healing skill of reflexology has been around for many thousands of years with the earliest record dating back to 2,500 BC. It was probably practiced in many countries such as Egypt, India and China.  In the tomb of an Egyptian physician Ankhmahor, a hieroglyph was discovered depicting a form of hand and foot treatment.

Since those early times many scientists and doctors have researched the effects of touch and gentle pressure on the feet to a reflex reaction in certain parts of the body.  Dr. William Fitzgerald of New England is often acknowledged as the “father” of reflexology. He discovered that when he applied pressure to certain parts of the body he could produce a numbness and pain relief in another part.  This was called zone therapy.  However, it was Eunice Ingram who pioneered the use of reflex techniques on the feet and handsto stimulate a response in the corresponding organs and systems of the body.

THE BENEFITS OF REFLEXOLOGY:

• Reflexology is a holistic approach to health and wellbeing
• Most people find the treatment deeply relaxing, which in turn may help to reduce stress
• It is a gentle therapy suitable for all ages
• It is a “touch therapy” which can be very comforting
• The treatment is non invasive and the client remains clothed

What happens during my treatment?

With reflexology I use hands only to apply gentle pressure to the feet.  The treatment generally last for an hour and following your treatment I will discuss my findings and recommend a course of treatment based on your individual needs. For each person, the experience is unique based on their bodies needs.
