The Bath Practice is now able to offer Body Control Pilates in classes with a maximum of three people, for £13 per one hour class, or one to one for £39 per class. This allows a far more focused and individual approach to tuition. The classes are open to all, and are ideal for anyone worried about attending larger classes due to injuries or other issues, or who simply wish to have the benefits of this more structured and personal approach. Andy Watson will also be happy to co-ordinate with your practitioner at The Bath Practice if you have one.
Andy’s approach to movement, therapeutic pilates and healing
Pilates can aid with performance but it’s also a powerful tool in managing and reducing pain. I have a wide range of skills and am specifically trained in the clinical management of low back pain and movement strategies to encourage better and stronger bones.
I am a specialist in stretch and muscle release techniques (MET) combining pilates practice with isometrics to provide rapid healing and pain relief.
I am comprehensively trained in classical pilates (matwork and studio equipment). I use pilates exercises and muscle energy techniques (MET) to make lasting positive change.
“Pilates exercises work from the inside, building strength and movement from a good base”
Pilates is a great way to exercise, it’s not complicated its just a good common sense approach.
Pilates encourages ideal skeletal alignment and then develops strong healthy muscles to maintain this alignment. Good alignment helps maintain joints that are strong and can move well. Pilates encourages a strong resilient body that has power, grace and elegance. Our principles include a mindful focus on alignment, breath and core stability (our movement A, B & C’s).
Benefits of Pilates
“Low impact while being challenging”
Pilates is suitable for anyone of any age or ability. It relieves stress, builds resilience, improves balance and concentration. Encouraging good posture can also help restore or improve mobility and flexibility. Over time Pilates will improve core stability, develop long lean functional muscles and help release any deep underlying tension further encouraging easier and better movement.
“It’s a simple approach, it develops functional movement patterns and is an amazing stress buster”
Client centred bespoke exercise programmes tailored to the individual and their capabilities. Good movement patterns are developed through simple exercises. As skill and endurance develop the exercises become progressively harder and more complex. By maintaining an appropriate mental and physical challenge the exercises stay fresh and interesting.
Pilates develops three dimensional muscle memory helping develop practical day to day functionally strong bodies. Body awareness is heightened by bringing together mind and body. Developing control of your body helps deal with stress really effectively and encourages true relaxation from the inside out.
Balance and co ordination
“Pilates can put a spring back into your step”
Moving well requires three elements, power, control and balance. Pilates puts all of this together in a holistic whole body approach and helps maintain and improve mobility, balance and coordination. The exercises can be targeted to manage specific problem areas but always as a whole body approach.
Leaner stronger and more efficient
“Maximum efficiency from minimum effort”
Long lean muscles work a bit like levers and pulleys by minimising the power required to move a load. They are therefore more efficient and proportionally stronger than bulky muscles with short strands. Pilates encourages long lean muscles. The exercises build strong, stable joints that act as a fulcrum for loads while lengthening the muscles dynamically. As the deeper muscles get stronger, movements and activities get easier, instigating a positive feedback loop.
